Staycations - A Viable Option for an Enjoyable Holiday

There is a misconception around the term "holiday". People think that it is not worth taking days off from work if they don't use them for getting away from their residential area. However, you don't always have the money or the power to travel. This does not mean that you cannot stop working for a short while and clear your head. Appeared from the combination of the verb "stay" and the noun "vacation", the term "staycation" expresses the idea of spending your holiday at home. Often disregarded, staycations can represent a viable option to traveling for several reasons:

1. They don't need a lot of preparations.

When you go abroad for your holiday, you have lots of preparations to do: to book flight tickets and accommodation in advance; to look for travel guides and plan every day's schedule; to get informed on visas and other formalities. All this hustle disappears when you decide to stay at home.

2. They represent an opportunity to reconnect with your friends and family.

Within our consumerist society, the population's financial needs have greatly increased. Therefore, people tend to work longer hours than they used to a few decades ago in order to cover for their personal as well as for their family's always growing expenses. Thus, they have less and less time to spend with their spouses, kids and friends.

3. They can be scheduled at any time of the year.

When traveling, you have to take into consideration weather conditions because you don't want to spend all your day in a hotel room with nothing to do because it is pouring outside. The range of indoor activities is much wider in your own residential area. Therefore, you can take this time off at any time of the year.

4. They are the perfect time to explore your local area.

More and more people love to travel across the Globe. They get informed on the landmarks and the things to do at their next destination. However, most of them often ignore their surrounding area's tourist attractions. A staycation is a great opportunity to explore your town's museums, art galleries and to take part in local cultural events. Just look for a good travel guide and try to discover your town from a tourist's perspective.

5. They don't cost a lot of money.

When spending your time off at home, you don't have to pay for the hotel room, you are not forced to eat out and you don't spend money on expensive entrance fees to landmarks.

6. They are not tiring.

Spending your vacation at home means not having to fly to a different corner of the world, not getting jet lagged, not having to run all day to make the most of it. Instead, you can sleep late, lie in bed with a book, watch a lot of TV, go to the pool and relax.

Therefore, staycations are a viable option to traveling and they can turn into highly enjoyable holidays if organized according to your own tastes and preferences.
