Bus System in Dubai

There are over 2,100 buses offering first class services to people. The city has launched air-conditioned Passenger Bus Shelters to encourage the use of public buses. Buses in Dubai meet the highest security and safety standards. There are several sizes & models of buses in the city loaded with modern technologies like passenger counting system, voice announcement of the next stop, internal & external display monitors and bus-positioning system linked with the RTA Control Centre. To ease passengers, the government has issued plastic, easy to swipe "e-go" cards. Passengers are also provided seasonal discounts and period passes. Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has stringent rules for school buses, which cannot speed over 80 km/h and must have RTA - approved speed control devices. Each bus has a GPS system, a first aid kit and a female attendant.

Dubai is the king of public bus system. The buses are custom-built having many features like air-conditioning, computerised fare equipment and electronically operated destination display system. All buses have maximum 51 seats and allow 10 standing passengers. A few smaller capacity buses serve passengers of inner CBD routes. A fleet of buses are maintained at two high-tech bus depots - Al Awir and Al Qusais.
