0 My Yellow Zucchini

Yellow Zucchini

This photo shows one of my Yellow Zucchini I picked today from my garden. This was a snack for me after doing garden/yard work all morning etc.

I sliced it into this slices. Breaded it in some Italian bread crumb mix. Pan fried in a frying pan of veggie oil till golden brown. Patted them dry and munched away.

It was such a tasty little snack.

Ever eat squash this way?

What's your fave recipe with any type of Zucchini?

I'll be making bread later this month with a lot of mine I'm sure.

0 Planning a Trip? Eleven Tips to Save Money When You Travel

Are you planning a holiday? With smart preparation, you can arrange a trip that will not overload your credit card. Here are eleven easy tips to help keep you within a reasonable budget.

Comfort Yes - Luxury No

Opt for budget rental cars, economy class plane tickets, and reasonably priced accommodations. Do you really need a suite, or will a standard room serve your needs? Would a homestay or hostel be acceptable? They are certainly not for everyone, but might work for you.

Book Tickets in Advance

You may be able to save a great deal by booking accommodations, flights, and rental cars in advance, especially if you shop for deals on the Internet. With early booking, you are also more likely to get exactly what you are looking for.

Compare Air and Train Fares

In some parts of the world, train travel is considerably cheaper than air. Eurostar tickets, for example, can be booked online for many destinations in Europe. Enjoy a speedy, comfortable trip for much less than a plane ticket. While you ride the train, soak in the panoramic countryside views and make friends with some of the locals.

Use City Transit Services if Possible

City buses, trains, and subways are cheaper than taxis. Not only do you save money, but you also have the opportunity to interact with other people. Talk to your concierge or another knowledgeable person about the safest routes as well as areas of the community that you should avoid.

Try a Bicycling or Backpacking Holiday

When you go bicycling or backpacking, you can explore the countryside without the expense of gas. Of course, this isn't for everyone or for every area of the world. However, it will save you money and keep you in shape. If you don't own the proper equipment, try to borrow or rent what you need.

Travel with Friends

If you are planning a solo trip, travel with one or more friends for safety and economy. Accommodations and other expenses can be reduced significantly in many cases.

Use Rewards Cards

Earn travel miles and discounts by making all your travel purchases with a rewards card. Plan a budget and stick to it. Try to pay off the full balance of your credit card when you return so that you avoid paying interest charges.

Join Travel Rewards Programs

Many hotels, airlines, and car rental companies offer programs for travelers. Even if you are not a frequent traveler, you should be able to find a program that will offer you some benefits.

Take Advantage of Discounts

Discounts are often offered to auto club members, veterans, seniors, and other groups. Always ask; and make sure you carry proper identification, registration cards, and other required documentation to qualify for the discounts.

Do Not Buy Anything on Impulse

Do you really need that expensive T-shirt or souvenir? Think carefully before making impulse purchases. Avoid expensive boutiques and restrict your spending to true bargains. In some areas of the world, bargaining is expected. Give it a try. You might turn that deal into a steal!

Avoid Paying for Wi-Fi

Search the Internet for "free Wi-Fi directory" before you leave. You might be able to locate hotspots in advance. If your hotel charges for Wi-Fi, investigate free services offered by places like McDonalds, Starbucks, and public libraries. You might be able to access nearby networks from your room. Check to see what is available before you sign up through the hotel.

Have a great vacation!

0 Dr. Jim and Bob's Fun & Helpful Health Advice

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of © Blue Shield of California for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Monday, I was home alone and decided to give it a try and get the hiccups myself. I thought it wouldn't hurt if nobody could see or talk to me. I tried burping on purpose; eating pepper sauce and leaning onto my stomach but it didn't work. Once I felt as I was going to get them, you know this pressure on my stomach but it was wrong. I thought that if I could get them I would try and record them and send it to the list! Then when I was loading the washing machine I let a loud one out! But it was only one! And I guess I have prevented others from coming cause I'm so used to! You know, I can't stand having the hiccups. Ever! But I wished to try.

I remember that when I was a child I usually got the hiccups from laughing too much. I would get them still now, but I've learned how to prevent them from coming or from going on. Thanks to Dr. Jim and Bob's Fun & Helpful Health Advice.

0 Charter Bus: New York's Answer to City Driving

In a report by Price Waterhouse Coopers released by the Atlantic in May, 2011, New York City ranked No. 1 among the World's 26 Best Cities for Business, Life and Innovation. New York City has been named the best in work flexibility, research universities, sports and leisure, commercial and cargo aircraft and cultural vibrancy. It ranked 2nd in international tourists and entrepreneurial environment. However, when surveyed about commute time, it ranked third to the last. There are many reasons to visit and tour this premier city, but because of its problems with traffic and parking, larger groups are recommended to take a charter bus. New York is not the nicest city to drive in if you are visiting, especially if you are a group riding three to four vehicles.

A charter bus driven by a professional will know the best places to park and how to navigate New York City's busy thoroughfares to maximize your group tour experience. Driving several vehicles when in New York City will not make sense as it is difficult to find a parking space and you are very likely to be issued an illegal parking ticket even on a Sunday or middle of the night.

The five boroughs of New York City are known for their cherished landmarks which are recognized all over the world as major American attractions. In the island of Manhattan, the most famous landmarks are the Empire State Building and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Central Park and Times Square are also found here. The World Trade Center site is another unforgettable landmark in New York.

The other four boroughs of New York have their own attractions, enough to overwhelm a new visitor. This is one of the reasons why it is best for a group to tour the city in a charter bus. New York offers a full breadth of attractions that can be virtually limitless, so it is best for first time visitors to join an organized group to maximize the pleasures of the experience.

What is awe-inspiring about New York City is its skyline. The panorama, widely recognizable in all the photos and features in world renowned publications can be breathtaking. From The 86th floor of the Empire State Building, the cityscape grandeur can be truly amazing. One can see how immense the city of New York is from 1,050 feet up. Or you can view the city from the Top of the Rock, at the 70th, 69th, or 67th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the home of NBC studios. Both buildings stay open after dark, so late viewers get the chance to see the shimmering City lights at night.

A walk through world-famous Times Square can also be exhilarating with all those bright lights and digital billboards. Visitors can choose to see their favorite stars and watch Broadway shows and Off-Broadway shows at reduced prices. There are also lots of shopping and novelties that will make one wish not to re-board the charter bus. New York is pedestrian-friendly, if not driver-friendly. Imagine a walk through Central Park, all 843 acres at the very heart of the city, with its rolling fields, tranquil bodies of water and walking trails.

0 Great Hotel Deals: How to Use the Web to Find the Best Prices

For many people vacations are a time to splurge. You work hard, and it's time to take the fruits of that hard work (money) and enjoy it for a little bit. But for me vacations are a time to save. And frankly, I think that gives me more opportunities to travel than many other people.

Everything on your vacation is going to be marked up a ton, so saving money isn't always that hard. Sometimes you can save a lot of money simply by asking for a lower price. It does actually happen.

Problems You'll Face

When most people book a hotel room, they don't think about how much they could be saving. They might use a price comparison website to compare the prices on different hotels, or make a bid that hotels have the option of filling. For many people, they look at the prices, what the hotel includes, and that's it. They do a minimal amount of research. Few people pay attention to reviews, and what comments people have had in the past, which is the biggest secret to finding great deals.

Another problem is that price comparison websites don't always show the lowest prices. They'll show the lowest prices that they can find, which can make a difference. Many people miss out on better deals because they don't book through the right website.

Finding High Quality Options

Personally, I don't think that enough people make their hotel reservations based on quality. I think people pay a lot more attention to price. And it's not just about the star rating of the hotel. You need to know how other people feel about their visits. How satisfied were they? Would they go again? Those are questions you need to know the answer to.

Basically what I'm saying is that you should always check the reviews before you visit. If you're going to pay a couple hundred dollars for a room (sometimes even thousands), then you should get to stay at a decent hotel. Most price comparison websites publish reviews about the hotels you're looking at, but sometimes not many people have commented on them. If not, Trip Advisor almost always has great reviews that you can check out before you book the hotel.

Check to see how satisfied other people were with their stay, and see if it's worth your time. Sometimes, you might get a better experience by staying at a cheaper 2 star hotel than you would at a more expensive 3 star option

How to Find the Best Deals

You need to do some price comparisons. However, there are hundreds of websites that will help you compare hotel prices. Some are better than others. Make sure to check out this article on WorldWidely.com that counts down the three best. It goes into great depth about different websites and what they do that helps you save money. 0 Freedom Trail Boston Coupons, Deals and Budget Tips - Save On Your Visit and Still Enjoy a Lobster!

Any budget-friendly visit to Boston's fantastic Freedom Trail should start at one of the two National Park Service Visitor Centers. The NPS personnel are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and they can help you plan your visit. All of what they provide is completely free (paid for by US taxpayers), although you may wish to make a small donation. Their free guided tours - which include the downtown Freedom Trail Stops, Faneuil Hall, Bunker Hill, the USS Constitution, and the USS Cassin Young - are well done, as good or better than anything you will pay for. And, the new Visitor Center at the base of Faneuil Hall is a showplace.

The National Park Service has also produced a free app that can be downloaded to an Android or iPhone/iPad device. Search Google Play or iTunes for "NPS Boston" to download the app. The app is very well done but it only covers "official" 16 Freedom Trail Stops - there is a lot more you will want to see. Use the NPS app in conjunction with the custom Google Map referenced below for a complete and free guide to everything.

Most of The Freedom Trail Stops are free, with exceptions of the Old South Meeting House, Old State House, and Paul Revere House. If visiting all three, purchase a Freedom Trail Ticket at any of these Stops. It will save about 20% over individual tickets. You can purchase it online, but there is little advantage to purchasing before you arrive.

Another option for visitors visiting the admission-charging Stops and other Boston-area attractions - including a tour from TheFreedomTrail.org, museums and a trolley or duck-boat tour, is a bundled package from Go Select.

Dining in Boston can be expensive, but bargains are available. Wonderful lunch deals are frequently offered, including lobster, in the Blackstone Block neighborhood. The Blackstone Block is on the walk between Faneuil Hall and the Paul Revere House in the North End. Several of the pubs mentioned in my Ezine article "Freedom Trail Restaurant Guide - Historic Restaurants," feature good, reasonably priced food in a colorful atmosphere.

There are many other good options in and around the North End (Boston's Little Italy and the location of the Paul Revere House, Old North Church and Copp's Hill Burying Ground). Several of my favorites include:

Galleria Umberto, for pizza-oriented lunch fare, is very popular with the locals. 289 Hanover Street (617) 227-5709.

La Summa, is one of the best for old world (not trendy) Italian. 30 Fleet St 617-523-9503. Check Restaurant.com for coupons.

Pizzeria Regina, Boston's oldest pizzeria, has been here since 1926. 11 1/2 Thacher Street. 617-227-0765.

There are two great Italian pastry shops on Hanover Street in the North End. Mikes Pastry at 300 Hanover Street is larger and has inside seating. Modern Pastry is at 257 Hanover Street. Both are fantastic.

Public transportation on the MBTA is the best way to get around. If your trip spans several days, consider a multi-day pass. Children 11 and under are free, and junior-high and high school students receive a 50% discount with ID and a special ticket.

There is a wonderful Water Shuttle ride across the inner harbor between Long Wharf (near Faneuil Hall and the Old State House) and the Charlestown Navy Yard (near the USS Constitution). It is part of the MBTA, and the single ride adult fare is $3.00, children are free. It is the F4 route and it is an inner harbor tour on the cheap - a great ride on a nice day.

Pick up a free CharlieCard at any transit station. The CharlieCard is a plastic reusable ticket for the MBTA. By showing the card, you receive discounts on attractions such as FreedomTrail.org tours, 2 for 1 admission at the Old State House, Boston Duck Tours, restaurant discounts (10% off at the Warren Tavern in Charlestown), and more. Search and download the "CharlieCard discount booklet" to learn more.

Enjoy your visit - The Freedom Trail is a special place!

Not only expensive honeymoons can assure an unforgettable experience, but also low budget ones but are well-planned. Sometimes, it's more about the creativity and spice of the whole honeymoon event! Don't hesitate to try it. Here's how you can do it.

First, know what you, as a couple, enjoy together. If there's an interest that match the both you, then explore it. Make it the whole theme of the honeymoon. Here are samples of low budget but exciting and out of the box honeymoon for you.

For example, both of you are adventurous. You like trying new things. Why not try camping out? You can prepare a good dinner with a twist. You can have it on candlelight and picnic will dinner theme. This will really be sweeter if you choose a time when the weather is friendly. So you can be able to gaze at the stars which is really something romantic.

You need not have it on a five star hotel or overseas. Usually, couples book their honeymoon earlier and then later spend it outside the country. Why not spend less by staying within the premises of your home? You must have been missing a certain spot within your area. Do a little research and consider a nearer venue so won't have or need to adjust with the environment, climate or culture.

Let's just say that the earlier point is not what you want because travelling is both your interest. Then let's try that. Travelling can be your option but try going to spots that do not require you to spend a lot of money. Those cheap destinations that will surely be worth your time and effort. According to a credible survey, these places are known to be cheap travel destinations: Greece, Mexico, Myanmar and Egypt. This will be something out of the usual fun and will give you something new to explore!

But most of all, it is best to take time and ask a Travel Specialist Agent to assist you with your plan. Surely, you will get a clear-cut view on what you have in mind and what's got to be better. If the main point will be having an affordable honeymoon, surely, your agent can give you good options to choose from. 0 Budget Travel: 5 Steps to Creating a Budget Friendly Vacation

Traveling during a down economy isn't easy. It's a big commitment, and there isn't a lot of certainty. This has caused many families to postpone or cancel their vacation plans altogether. Many of these families aren't aware of the ins and outs of budget travel, and that's unfortunate. If these families realized that they can make travel more affordable, then maybe they'd be able to take more time off.

That's what I wanted to go over in this article. If you're interested in saving money on a vacation, then follow these simple budget travel steps.

Find the right destination - If you haven't picked a destination, then pay special attention to cheap destinations. You don't have to plan the trip of a lifetime to get a good experience. Try looking for something close to home that many people don't think about. Get creative!
Pay attention to transportation - Calculate the cost of traveling to your destination. A flight, for example, can cost a family thousands whereas a car ride would cost less. Granted, you'll also have to balance that against the potential frustration of a long car ride. But, if it can save you a few hundred dollars, it might be worth it.
Select the right hotel - Look around the Internet for different hotel deals and see where you can find the lowest rates possible. You hear a lot of horror stories about cheap hotels, but I really don't have any. Even the cheap hotels I've stayed in have been satisfactory. But pay attention to the reviews anyway, since most price comparison websites show them. If you can find a cheap hotel that people have been satisfied with in the past, then it might be the diamond in the rough you're looking for.
Make a Light, and Cheap Schedule - Some of the most enjoyable vacations are the ones where you don't do much. When you're traveling on a budget, the last thing you want to do is cram your vacation full of activities. Schedule some fun stuff, but don't overdo it. Not only will you be exhausted, you'll also spend more money. Think of free time in both senses of the word (the do what you want sense and the doesn't cost you anything sense)
Plan your meals ahead of time - Think of a college student living in an apartment. How do they save money on food? Do they eat out all the time or do they go to the store and make their own meals? Obviously, they do the second one, and you can do the same thing during your vacation. This may sound like nonsense, but a family of four can actually save $150-$200 just by planning their meals.

What if you want to save even more money? You might be interested in a free ebook offered at WorldWidely.com. It goes over everything budget travel and can help you save even more money. Click here to get your free copy.

0 Planning a Memorable But Cheap Holiday

I'm sure you have dreamed about taking that perfect vacation. You've thought about traveling to exotic countries or considered taking a month or two from work to go backpacking. While it might not be possible to travel around the world or be away from work for more than 2 weeks because of time or financial constraints, it doesn't mean you can't have a great vacation. There are several things you can do to have a cheap holiday that's both satisfying and memorable.

• Look for cheap flights: With patience and careful planning, you can score some affordable tickets. Regularly check travel websites or an airline's homepage for special deals. This might mean you'll be booking your flight well in advance or you'll be traveling at the last minute, but the savings you'll get are amazing. Traveling during the off-season also means big savings.

• Learn to pack and travel light: If you're only going away for a few days, use a backpack or any hand luggage. Just bring the essentials and leave behind non-essential items like a hair dryer. You'll save a lot of time and money if you don't have to check-in or pay the baggage fee.

• Eat where the locals eat: Food is one of the biggest expenses a person makes when on holiday. Eating out can set you back a pretty penny, unless you eat where the locals do. Ask where the best local restaurant is and you'll eat well during your cheap holiday.

• Do your research and look for places you can go to for free: Before deciding on where you want to go, Google it and search for places and activities that you can go to for free or for a minimal fee. For example, look for free museums, parks, organic markets or open air performances.

• Go to the beach: This is a great place to go if you want to stretch your budget. You don't need to spend money to go sunbathing, read, play beach volleyball, swim or build a sand castle.

• Stay alcohol free: You might not notice it, but alcohol sometimes causes major spending during a vacation. Most of us can drink responsibly, but we sometimes forget this when we're in a different country and enjoying our vacation. Remember that a tipsy tourist transforms into a big spender at times. Think about this as well, we go on a holiday for a change of pace, not to keep doing the same thing in a different locale. If you're always hitting the bars while in the city, and you're still doing the same thing on your vacation, then what was the point of leaving?

• Go for a walk: Going around on public transportation can be expensive. One way to cut cost during your holiday is to walk. Get a map of the area and check areas that you can cover on foot. You'll save some cash and see more of the town. If you really need a transport, avoid taxis and go for other public transportation.

Everybody needs a break from time to time. Going on a holiday is a great way for you to recharge your batteries and learn more about yourself. Despite the sluggish economy, there's no reason why you should deprive yourself of it. With a little ingenuity and creativity, you can have that perfect cheap holiday.

0 Why Not Undertake Volunteer Work While Traveling Abroad?

If you want to get a real taste of a country and its culture on your travels while picking up new skills and meeting new people; a great way to do this is by opting to do some volunteer work.

How does it work?

There are a few schemes available online that you can sign up to in order to facilitate volunteer work. These schemes are usually free to register, and some will upgrade membership by payment of a small fee. Membership upgrade usually gives you access to more countries and/or access to more available hosts.

These schemes put you in touch with 'hosts', which can range from anything from working on an organic farm to staying with, and being part of a local family.

What type of work is expected?

The work you are expected to do can vary from helping out with baby sitting, to using and developing skills in permaculture and organic farming. You could find yourself milking cows in the Swiss Alps or helping out on an organic farm in Hungary, to wine harvesting in the South of France.

Normally, you will be offered bed and board in exchange for a few hours' work a day. The hours of work are usually agreed between you and your host beforehand. This is important so that you and your host know exactly what is expected of you before you arrive.

What skills can I pick up?

Some places will help you with language skills and you can exchange your skills for something you might like to learn or get involved in. The sort of skills you learn on these travels can even help you in your future career. There are a lot of organic farm stays available nowadays which can provide you with many eco skills, from traditional building practices to organic farming.

Travel on a budget

Because you are not paying for bed and board this can have a positive impact on your overall travel budget, with the advantage that anything you do spend will most likely not be at the grossly inflated prices other tourists are subject to.

Other benefits

Hosts may provide internet access, your own room and use of facilities which can be a real boon when traveling in the long-term. Some hosts will also take you on trips to local places of interest. Remember, because you are usually off the beaten track it is likely that anywhere you go will not be on the tourist trail in any event. You will be experiencing and seeing things that most travelers will not have access to.

Better still, on these type of schemes sometimes long and lasting friendships can develop. This can be between you and your hosts, or the people you meet on your travels.

Bon voyage!

0 How To Save For A Family Holiday

There is nothing quite like a great family holiday, but great family holidays come at a cost. You need to know how to save money for your family holiday if you ever want to be able to afford one. This article provides you with a 5 step process for saving enough money for your next trip.

Where you go on your next trip and how long you go for doesn't matter these tips can work for anyone. They are not the be all and end of of travel saving advice but they give you a good starting point and framework from which to base your savings plan on.

These steps are steps that I am taking myself to save for our next family holiday.

1. Decide How Much Money You Need

This is the first obvious step. Before you begin saving you first need to decide how much money you will need for your trip. Holidays can vary in expenses extremely. Obviously if you want to be staying in 5 star resorts having massages on a daily basis then it is going to cost you a lot more than free camping in the bush.

Decide what kind of holiday you want and do some research to find out exactly how much your holiday will cost. You now have your goal savings figure.

2. Create an Automatic Savings Plan

This tip could also be titled 'start saving'. The goal here is to 'pay yourself first' and to save money before it goes into your living expenses. My family has a certain amount of money each month that we save regardless. We then try and live off the rest.

Save the money you need first and then get creative as to how you are going to survive off the remaining amount. You will find it isn't as difficult as you first imagined.

3. Sell Any Unwanted Items

To ramp up your savings quickly sell any unwanted items lying around the house. Use eBay to sell old furniture and tech items for some extra cash.

4. Look To Create Extra Sources Of Income

Look for ways to create extra sources of income that you can save. Maybe you can get a second job, work extra hours or even start a business on the side. Make sure that every extra dollar that you earn you put towards your holiday. Don't go spending that extra income you make or you will find you are working extra hard with very little to show for it.

5. Spend Less and Save More

If you every get an opportunity to spend less then save the excess. Say you shopped at a discount supermarket and as a result you only spent $70 on the shopping when usually you would have spent $100. You can now save that $30 towards your holiday to speed up the process.

6. BONUS TIP: Have a working holiday

Some families even choose to have working holidays. For more tips check out these families that are travelling Australia because they took the time and saved up.

0 Harness the Benefits of Cheap Domestic Flights in India

Ever since airlines have been privatized, people of India are having a field day. A lot of people have shifted to flying rather than taking the train, which takes a lot of time to reach if the destination is far off. People of India also seem to have realized the numerous benefits of flying. Here are five major benefits.

Firstly, you save time and when you are on a holiday, nothing is more precious than time. Every place in India has so many things to do and see that holidays seem to melt away very quickly. Usually, travelling a distance of nearly 1100 kilometers from Chennai to Mumbai takes more than twenty four hours. If you choose Mumbai to Chennai flights, it takes around less than one and a half hours. So, you get almost four additional days to spend on your vacations.

Secondly, train journey has a major flaw with regard to frequency of trains. Direct long distance trains are not available everyday from all stations. There are a lot of weekly and bi-weekly trains which might not coincide with your vacation time. On the other hand, flights to Mumbai from Chennai are many. What is more, since there are many airline services, you are sure to find a place in one of the Mumbai to Chennai flights.

You also need to consider the fact that many hill stations, owing to their rough hilly terrains, do not have a railway station at all. A few hill stations such as Shimla do have a railway line but it is a narrow gauge and unsuitable for regular passenger trains. If you choose train journey, you have to take a train to the nearest railway station and then take a bus or taxi to the spot. You not only have to spend a lot of time, but also experience a lot of discomfort of lengthy travel, especially if you are travelling with kids. In order to compensate for the absence of a regular railway line, important hill stations have small airport facility which can accommodate small flights. The small Mumbai flights of the low cost airlines can fly into these airports.

The fourth factor is ease of travel. Indian trains are crowded all the time. Major stations in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai or other major cities are a beehive of activity. Added to the rush and crowd is the fact that trains seldom run on time. When you consider all these factors, Mumbai flights or air travel to any destination seems like god sent. Mumbai to Chennai flights are much more comfortable when compared to train travel. More importantly, flights to Mumbai are safer than train travel. The incidents of thefts which are reported on trains do not happen on aircrafts. In case your luggage in misplaced on Mumbai flights, the airline officials ensure that the luggage reaches your home safely because once you check in the luggage and it goes into the cargo box, it is the responsibility of the flight to ensure its safety.

Finally, the cost matters a lot. Low cost flights to Mumbai are sometimes cheaper than air conditioned train travel. So, on the whole, it works out well.

Mumbai to Chennai flights, flights to Mumbai and Mumbai flights offer amazing convenience of travel. So, if you are travelling to your favorite tourist destination, book a low cost air ticket. You save time, money and the journey is more convenient. Your travel agent can arrange a low cost flight for you.

0 The Hidden Gem of Colombia: Parque Tayrona and Its Turqouise Seas

If there is such thing as heaven on Earth then Parque Tayrona would qualify. Playa de Cabo San Juan in Parque Tayrona, Colombia sings and dances its beauty; with big boulder bluffs that loom over seas of playful turquoise waves. There are no cars, roads or hotels. Accommodations include camping, land hammocks, and hammocks in a hut overlooking the sea.

Travelers from all over the world can be found lounging on the shores of Cabo San Juan. The far shore is designated for swimming in the nude. You can get to Tayrona by paying $3.50 for a taxi from Santa Marta, but be prepared for a 2-hour hike down the mountain to the sea. You can also take a boat from Taganga for $22. The boat is manned by adventurous Colombianos who love to push it just a bit too far. After about a half-hour of getting some huge air on ginormous ocean swells, the boat motor seized and we had to take a little break from our way-faring fun. We, of course, eventually made it to our destination.

After securing ourselves some hammocks on hammock hut rock, Lulu and I practiced "hot" yoga and body-surfing over on the far beach. The waves are spectacular on that beach and it is least visited of them all. If you like the surf of the SoCal beaches, then you will love this shore - it has similar waves, but the water temperature is probably 10 degrees warmer. Later, we joined some French friends for dinner and an early snooze in our hammocks overlooking the sea. If you sleep at Playa San Juan, be sure to bring sweaters because the breeze is cold at night.

For a sunrise that will make you thank God that you are alive, open your eyes around 5 a.m. Other hammock dwellers will be up and rousing around at that time as well, so it won't be very hard to wake up this early. In fact, the excitement of this spectacular site is so contagious that I am not sure how one could slumber through it. This is a definite #worthit moment.

As far as eating at Playa San Juan, I saved a lot of money by sticking with the handmade ham and cheese sandwiches. They can be purchased from the lady selling out of her cooler in front of the locker room. They're one-of-a-kind yummy and only cost $1.50 a piece. The meals that are sold at the beach restaurant will run you upward of $10 a piece, and are meals of plain chicken or steak.

Have you been, or are you going to Parque Tayrona? For more information on places to be in this region of Colombia, check out Magic Sunsets and Rose-Quartz Roads - The Lovely Taganga, Colombia ( http://lillianpierson.com/Blog/taganga/ ). If you have already been, what were your experiences there?

0 Flying to the Virgin Islands on the Cheap

The US and British Virgin Islands are the star attractions of the Caribbean. The islands' awesome mix of natural wonders, friendly atmosphere, and amazing resorts, is the reason why many tourists visit them all year-round. This is also the reason why traveling to these islands can dig deep into your pockets, however, there are some ways that you can save up on your tropical paradise vacation, by simply saving on your flight.

Many travel sites will tell you that traveling off-season is the way to go, and this is true. If you don't mind traveling without the herd, you can save serious cash in your visit to the Virgin Islands. It's just a matter of supply and demand really. The more people taking in flights, the more expensive the tickets are going to be. Peak seasons in the VIs are from November through May, while the off-season starts in the summer months to October. If you think about it, going off-season is making the most out of your summer vacation anyway, so it's a two-for-one deal.

You can also save up on the travel expenses by being a little flexible with your time. Certain airlines give cheap tickets for flight schedules that take in fewer passengers, just to fill in the seats. If you can bend your schedule for these types of flights then you're going to have more cash to spend on rum and grilled lobsters when on the islands.

Hunting for budget airlines is another way to go when flying on the cheap. With the help of the internet you can compare flight rates of different airlines that service the Caribbean. Big airlines in the US and UK usually give off deals for patrons looking to save some cash, so keep on alert for those. Also consider traveling in smaller planes; airlines such as Jet Blue, Spirit and ATA, have cheaper fares by default, and not only that, they also throw in irresistible budget deals.

Any constant traveler is quick to advise to travel light when boarding an airplane, especially if your visit is brief. The reason is not to uphold the chic traveler stereotype, but to avoid paying charges that airlines require for checked bags. Limiting your stuff and other gear to a minimum saves you from the hassle, and more importantly, save you money.

Trips from New York and Chicago to the Virgin Islands take about 3 1/2-5 hours. If you're flying within these areas, make sure you eat at home before taking your flight and bring some snacks like biscuits and crisps along, in case you get hungry. In-flight food and food sold on airport outlets are very expensive, so avoid getting hungry when flying. If you're taking a flight from California though, which takes about 7-8 hours, take a sandwich with you or buy something from outlets. They may be expensive still but they cost way less than those sold inside the plane.

Your dream vacation in the Virgin Islands waits for you, and it's not even going to cost you a fortune. If you're willing to travel during the summer break, and you're okay with bending your schedule to fit that of your chosen airline, you're pretty much there already.

Greg Hunt is a wanderer who has the knack for writing. Upon a trip to the Virgin Islands, fell in love with its hum and vibration. He currently resides in St. Thomas and works as a skipper for St Thomas Boat Rental.

Check out some of his works at Pirates Paradise Adventures.
